why should I be a camping & canoe trip leader at camp?

Do what camp was made for and spend your summer in the Canadian wilderness. There’s no better place to spend the night outdoors than in the breathtaking lakes and natural beauty that Canada’s camps benefit from.

Many campers come from cities, and only get into the great Canadian outdoors during the summer months. You'll be able to take your group into the wilderness, and teach them to appreciate the beautiful scenery around them. There truly is no better way to spend your summer.

what does a camping trip leader do at summer camp?

Camping instructors lead campers on outdoor expeditions in the Canadian wilderness. Outings may range from 1 night to 2 weeks, either on the camp grounds or exploring a nearby lake with the older campers. Some of the further outings include portaging canoes as well.

You'll be able to teach your campers outdoor skills, such as how to pitch a tent, how to cook over a fire, and, of course, how to roast a perfect marshmallow.

How much experience do I need?

If you’re not the best in the world at your activity, there’s no need to worry - you’ll be teaching kids who are just there to have fun, most will even be complete beginners. You’ll be fully trained before your campers arrive, and you’ll be supported by the other counsellors at your camp.

How many children should I expect to teach?

Campers come down to sessions in divisions (age groups). These can vary in skill level, but usually are made up of 10-30 campers. You’ll then be paired with an individual camper or a group, and don’t worry - you’ll be supported by your fellow specialists and counsellors.

Do I still get days off?

Of course! Everyone needs time to recharge their batteries after an exciting but hectic week at camp, as well as the opportunity to explore the local area and further afield. Most camps will give you a 24 hour block of free time every week, whilst some others provide 2-4 days off in a row every few weeks.
