Confident, Fast-paced, Driven, Energetic

bonus qualifications:

Just like at the skatepark, no qualifications are necessary. If you can skate and do some simple tricks, you'll be plenty qualified for a role at camp. You'll be teaching kids, so their skill level won't be overly high to begin with - if you can help them learn a thing or two, you'll be a lock for a role at camp.

To nail down a skateboarding role, all you'll need to do is make a simple showcase video in your application. Throw in some simple tricks and you'll be on your way!

why should I teach skateboarding at summer camp?

If you already spent your free time at the skatepark, why not teach it at camp? Most of the campers will be beginners, so if you think you can teach kids how to skateboard and show them some simple tricks, this might be the perfect role for you.

You’ll get to share your passion with campers, introducing them to what could be a lifelong hobby. And of course - you’ll get to skate all summer. What could be better?

what does a skateboard instructor do at summer camp?

You'll help kids develop their skills, and have the most laid-back summer you might ever have.

As an activity specialist, you will be coaching 5 or 6 sessions a day, with kids of all age groups. Campers will come to you with different backgrounds, most never having stepped foot on a skateboard, and others being seasoned skaters. Most sessions should be tailored to an intermediate ability level, but you should be comfortable adapting plans to suit campers of different needs.

How much experience do I need?

If you’re not the best in the world at your activity, there’s no need to worry - you’ll be teaching kids who are just there to have fun, most will even be complete beginners. You’ll be fully trained before your campers arrive, and you’ll be supported by the other counsellors at your camp.

How many children should I expect to teach?

Campers come down to sessions in divisions (age groups). These can vary in skill level, but usually are made up of 10-30 campers. You’ll then be paired with an individual camper or a group, and don’t worry - you’ll be supported by your fellow specialists and counsellors.

Do I still get days off?

Of course! Everyone needs time to recharge their batteries after an exciting but hectic week at camp, as well as the opportunity to explore the local area and further afield. Most camps will give you a 24 hour block of free time every week, whilst some others provide 2-4 days off in a row every few weeks.
